neben all dem anderen, was uns als nation in diesem
gigantischen ringen bewegt, ist die sehnsucht nach
glück und frieden, nach wohlstand und gesichertem
dasein einer der huptantriebe unseres willens zum
siege und unserer zähen beharrlichkeit in der
verfolgung dieses zieles. ein jeder von uns malt
sich in seinen geheimsten wünschen ein zukünftiges
leben aus, das jedenfalls besser ist als dasjenige,
das er verließ, als er das gewehr in die hand nahm
oder an pflug und drehbank trat, um mit verdoppelter
arbeit seinem volke für diesen krieg das tägliche
brot und unseren soldaten waffen und munition zu
schaffen. wir sehen dann im geiste ein glückliches
volk vor unseren augen, in einem lande voll von
blühender schönheit, von den silberbändern breiter
straßen durchzogen, die auch für das bescheidene
auto des kleinen mannes freistehen.


In addition to everything else that moves us as a
nation in this gigantic struggle, the longing for
happiness and peace, for prosperity and a secure
existence is one of the main driving forces behind
our will to victory and our tenacious perseverance
in the pursuit of this goal. each of us visualises
a future in his most secret wishes a future life
that is a future life that is better than the one
the one he left when he picked up the rifle or
stepped up to the plough and lathe to do double the
his people's daily bread for this war and bread
and arms and ammunition for our soldiers.
we then see in our minds a happy people people
before our eyes, in a country full of beauty,
criss-crossed by the silver ribbons of wide roads
that are free even for the humble car of the little man.
